Have you been to the South Okanagan Similkameen Botanical Gardens? If not, you really should visit them. This time of year they are spectacular with dozens of species of beautiful flowers, as well as a rich variety of grasses, trees, and other flora.
Pardon? Oh, you haven’t heard of the gardens? And you’re wondering what the entrance fee is, and what hours they are open? Well, these gardens are one of the best well-kept secrets in our entire area. Here’s how to find them:
Lift up your eyes from the valley bottom and scan the hillsides. See all those wide open spaces covered with sage? And above them, forests? There you are! The gardens are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the price is perfect: free!
These particular flowers and other plants were photographed on the hillsides surrounding the Keremeos Columns Provincial Park, but you’ll find a similar glorious selection of flora on all our hillsides. If you’ve been thinking there’s nothing up there but dust, rocks, and sagebrush, you are missing out on an amazing botanical treat! Check out these photos, then head to the hills and see them close up, in all their glory!
